  • 3/11/12 - Vern got a tractor
It's an early '70s Ford model 3400 utility tractor with front loader. Originally yellow, like all Ford industrial and utility tractors, it's been painted blue and appears to have been well cared for through the years. It should serve Vern well.

  • 3/11/12 - Vern's barn made it through the winter
The barn now has doors on the front and is quite weather tight. We have just a couple of new pictures showing the doors with trim work in progress.

  • 12/22/2011 - I recently ran across a note that I had made to remind myself to look into the music of Eva Cassidy. Having heard her version of the song 'Fields Of Gold' by Sting I wanted to hear more of her work. After purchasing and listening to her live album I understand why I made that note. I'm enjoying her music so much that I want to share it.
I found that she recorded a number of albums and was gaining popularity in the 90's before she died in 1996.

Watch this video and see if you agree that we lost a very talented singer that should have recieved more recognition.

There are several videos on YouTube and several albums available for purchase on the Amazon MP3 site: Music by Eva Cassidy

I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do.

  • 9/22/11 - New pics from Ace
Jim Hopfensperger is not just a woodworker, but an artist. His woodworking projects are worthy of a gallery showing and several have been shown. We have a new collection of photos of pieces that Jim has created over the years. Although the pictures are beautiful, you have to see the actual pieces to fully appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of the work. These pieces are flawless. From the selection of the material to the fit of every hand cut joint, to the application of the finishes, every piece is perfect.
See the pictures in the woodworking gallery.

  • 7/26/11 - It's car time again :)   (New pictures added 09/15/11)
Dick has a new truck. It's a 2011 Nissan Frontier that replaces the old (2004) GMC Sierra. The new truck is a mid-size pickup with crew cab (4 doors). This smaller truck should be easier to use around town but is quite comfortable on the highway. It was purchased from Warner Automotive in Findlay, OH. after checking dealer inventories on the Web. The purchase experience was a pleasure after being frustrated with the local dealers who seemed unable to provide a price for a new truck or a trade-in value for the old truck. My initial dealings with Warner Automotive were via e-mail and I was quoted a good price on the new truck and given a fair offer on my trade. After confirming the deal by phone, I drove to Ohio to complete the deal in an efficient and professional exchange.
Check out pictures of the new truck here in the car gallery.

  • 5/25/2011 - Jeff is building a dinghy. Check out the projects page for details on this fun project.

  • 5/23/2011 - Babies, babies and more babies. Check out the baby page for pictures of recent newborns.

  • 5/22/2011- Seems I'm not only behind in documenting weddings, I'm now behind in documenting babies. I hope to start a page dedicated to baby news soon, but wouldn't you know that my first grandchild would get me started.

Check out the first pictures of Annie and Adam's baby girl Mara Kathryn who was born Sunday morning May 22nd at 7:44.

And check back soon to see if I've added pictures of the other 2011 babies. Baby Page
  • 2/22/11- Check out Bob's new live camera view on the left. If you are ever wondering what the weather looks like in Canal Fulton (near Akron) Ohio, stop by here for the up to the minute view. Those who are logged in can see a real-time feed of either camera. Try it out.

  • 05/15/10- Trail maintenance at the Betsie cabin. We've built a couple of bridges so the ATVs don't have to ford the creeks. We've got more to build yet, and lots of trail work. Check out the projects page to see photos of last weekends effort.

  • 02/05/10- Katy and Vern have adopted a dog. Visit the dog pet page to see pictures of Liam. He's part boxer and part ??.
His foster family is guessing he was born around mid September.

  • 9/28/09- Annie and Adam have purchased a house in Ann Arbor, Michigan

It's a four bedroom cape cod style with full basement and 2 car garage on a ½ acre lot.
After putting a fair bit of elbow grease into cleaning it over the weekend, they're looking forward to sprucing it up with paint and carpet and moving in by next weekend.

We have only a single picture right now, but check back soon for more.

  • 9/24/09- Betsie river shed is almost complete
With Jeff's help, we now have the roof shingled and doors built and hung. We had beautiful weather for working outside last weekend and took good advantage of it to get close to completing the new shed. It still needs the window installed, some trim boards applied, paint and a ramp in front of the door, but it's quite usable now as you can see in the new pictures in the project gallery.

  • 8/29/09- Mackinac Island, Michigan
Kate & Suzy attended a conference on Mackinac Island last week and Dick & Jason went along for the ride (bike ride). We had a great time with beautiful, sunny and cool weather. We all took our bikes and logged many hours enjoying the scenic trails on the island. Mackinac Island really is a great place for biking. We stayed at the Metivier Inn which is a wonderful bed & breakfast, we highly recommend it.

  • Recipes
There have been requests for recipes for Christmas cookies and other family favorites. Here are a few to start the list:
    • Kate makes cheesecake bars every year at Christmas time.
Here's the recipe for White Chocolate Cheesecake Squares
    • Here are a couple recipes from Betsy
      • Everyone asks for this peanut butter soup. The recipe calls for chicken, but Betsy makes it vegetarian with a chicken substitute called Quorn.
      • For those that enjoy the peanut butter soup, she suggests this recipe for Spicy Peanut Chicken & Rice skillet dish. Again the chicken can be replaced by a vegetarian substitute.
    • Kate has provided her recipe for vegetarian Pastitsio which is another family favorite.
We'll add more recipes as they are submitted.
